Merge Healthcare Celebrates 16 Years of Continuous Medical Imaging Toolkit Innovation

Chicago, IL, November 23, 2010 – Merge Healthcare (NASDAQ:MRGE), a leading health IT solutions provider, today announced the latest release of its MergeCOM-3™ DICOM Toolkit, the industry standard for medical imaging software development. With this product release, Merge continued its 16 year commitment to standards-based interoperability and simplified adoption by providing toolkit upgrades to the diagnostic imaging development community. Merge has signed 17 toolkit contracts since the last upgrade earlier this year.

"We've relied on Merge's toolkits to bring us accelerated development with a solid interoperability foundation”, said Thomas Laupper, COO at Swissray International, Inc. “Working with Merge has allowed us the flexibility to quickly introduce new products while maintaining full control over the development, implementation and support for our direct digital diagnostic radiography products."

Performance and functional improvements to compression make this the fastest version of MergeCOM-3 ever delivered. In response to global customer demand, this toolkit also includes simplifications to international character set handling.

In addition to the MergeCOM-3 DICOM Toolkit, the newest MergeCOM-3 HL7 Toolkit adds a comprehensive plug-in and sample for creating HL7 mappings through a graphical interface; allowing interface analysts to create and validate HL7 connectivity. The latest version of Merge’s Image Enhancement Toolkit enables Digital Radiography vendors to improve image quality and acquisition workflow for their next generation systems. By leveraging Merge’s strong IP portfolio, the toolkit provides a unique combination of image enhancement algorithms, advanced image segmentation methods, and a user-friendly configuration and tuning interface.

“We are delighted to include a growing number of customers into Merge’s development community,” added Justin Dearborn, Merge Healthcare’s President. “Our longstanding commitment to delivering innovation to the global community of healthcare solution developers forms a foundation for the next level of interoperability for healthcare solutions globally. 90% of the data volume in an electronic record comes from images, so our toolkits provide a critical base for overall health information exchange.”

The MergeCOM-3 and Merge Image Enhancement toolkits will be on display as a part of the complete Merge solution set for medical imaging at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting, which takes place November 28 - December 2, 2010 in Chicago, Illinois. Merge Healthcare can be found in Hall A, booth #3419.
